Veteran bankmen’s union leader R.J. Sridharan dead

Veteran bank officers’ union leader and Chairman of the All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) R.J. Sridharan, died here on Saturday, sources said. 

He was 65 and is survived by wife, daughter and son.

Sridharan was unwell for some time and died of cardiac arrest at a private hospital in the city. 

One of the pillars of the bankmen’s trade union movement in the country, Sridharan was instrumental in starting the AIBOA in 1981, as the officers wing of the All India Bank Employees Association. 

A skillful negotiator, he led the AIBOA as its general secretary for 23 years until he became its Chairman after his retirement from Canara Bank, sources said.

Pension

Sridharan played a major role in getting the government to agree to pension as a third benefit for bank employees, sources said.

He was instrumental in starting the AIBOA in 1981
