Ashishkumar Chauhan Appointed MD & CEO of BSE

Mumbai: Ashishkumar Chauhan was on November 2 appointed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Asia’s oldest stock exchange.


Mr. Chauhan has been officiating as the interim chief executive since May 2012, after Madhu Kannan quit to join Tata Sons as head of business development.


A BSE statement said the chairman and board of directors of the bourse took the decision based on the recommendation of a selection committee and help from an executive search firm.


Necessary approvals from market regulator Sebi for the appointment have already been received, it said.


Mr. Chauhan, who holds a mechanical engineering degree from IIT Bombay and has also done a post-graduate diploma at IIM Calcutta, joined BSE in 2009 as deputy chief executive from Reliance Industries, where he served as president and chief information officer, it said.


“At BSE, he has played a key role in helping the CEO bring about significant changes especially in the technology upgradation and worked closely with the team to develop innovative products,” the statement said.


He has also served on the Central Board of Direct Taxes besides being a member of Sebi’s Primary Market Advisory Committee and a member on the board of governors of Jabalpur’s Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing.
