New Delhi, Feb 2: Thursday (Feb 2) morning came with a shocking news for 122 telecom companies whose 2G licenses would be cancelled soon. The Supreme Court pronounced its verdict which said that telecom companies will have to seek fresh recommendations. The 2G licenses will now have to be auctioned as is the norm.

However, aam-admi (general people) seem confused over the verdict as it was not clear that the subscribers of those telecom companies would be affected or not.

Here are some suggestions for those subscribers:

  • The subscribers will be contacted by their operators.
  • The companies may issue necessary directives for their customers. Subscribers can easily opt for a different operator as Mobile Number Portability has already been started in India.
  • However, customers less than 90 days old, can not go for portability.
The above mentioned suggestions have been given citing the statement of TRAI chairman JS Sharma who on Thursday stated, "As far as the cancelled licences are concerned, together they hold less than 5% of the total base . In terms of numbers they may be big but in terms of percentages, it’s small."
